How to Care for Your Garments – The Bring Balance Way

At Bring Balance, we believe that every garment you wear should feel like a gentle embrace — comfortable, conscious, and made to last. While it's natural for clothes to experience wear over time, how we care for them can make a world of difference in how long they stay with us.

Here’s a guide to help you care for your BB garments, so they remain just as beautiful as the day you welcomed them into your wardrobe.

1. Start with the Label

The first and most essential tip: check the care instructions.

Most garments come with tags, offering specific washing and drying recommendations tailored to the fabric. At BB, we make sure each piece has care instructions or is accompanied by the care details it deserves — and you can always find this information on our website, too.

Still unsure? Just drop us a line at info@bringbalance.in, and we’ll be happy to guide you.

2. Turn Your Darks Inside-Out

To avoid the all-too-common fading of dark garments, make it a habit to wash them inside out. This reduces surface friction and protects the colour from rubbing off onto other garments — a small but effective act that preserves the vibrancy of your clothing.

3. Iron with Intention

Ironing may seem straightforward, but it can sometimes do more harm than good if done incorrectly.

Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and silk need gentle care. Too much heat can lead to burns or yellowing. Always check the temperature settings on your iron — or look up quick fabric-specific guides online.

If you use a laundry service (like many of us do), request a gentle press setting — the same way they treat silk sarees. A little instruction goes a long way.

4. Store Mindfully

How you store your clothes has a direct effect on how long they last.

Cotton and linen: Always fold and store them in a cool, dry space.

Silk: Store folded in a breathable cotton bag and take it out occasionally to air it. This prevents creases and stiff fold lines.

Wool: Fold flat with lavender sachets or cedar wood blocks to repel insects naturally.

Avoid plastic storage bags for long-term use. Choose breathable materials like muslin cloth or canvas storage boxes instead.

5. Let Your Clothes Breathe

Avoid cramming clothes into every corner of your wardrobe. Overstuffing causes unnecessary friction, wrinkles, and even damage to delicate fibres. Give your garments space to rest, just like you would want after a long day.

6. Keep it Cool & Dry

Humidity is the enemy of natural fabrics. Make sure your wardrobe or storage area is:

-Well-ventilated
-Free from excess moisture
-Cool and dark to prevent fading

A time-tested Indian method is placing camphor balls wrapped in a soft cotton cloth in your wardrobe. Camphor is a natural dehumidifier and also keeps moths at bay.

7. Secure All Closures

It’s easy to overlook, but closing buttons, hooks, and zippers before storing or washing your garments prevents them from catching onto other clothes, saving you from accidental tears or loose threads.

8. Mind Your Makeup

Cosmetics like hairsprays, perfumes, powders, and deodorants often contain chemicals that can discolour fabrics. A simple trick?
Dress after your beauty ritual.

If possible, consider switching to plant-based, natural products that are gentler not just on your skin, but on your garments too.

Every Garment Tells a Story—Let Yours Be Long and Beautiful

Taking care of your garments is not about being perfect—it’s about being intentional. Whether it's choosing to air-dry instead of tumble drying, or folding your linens gently at the end of the day, every small act of care extends the life of your wardrobe and honours the love and energy that went into creating it.

At Bring Balance, we believe that what you wear should last, not just because it’s made well, but because it’s cared for well too.
